Which apps does it work with?
Apple Music, and media playing in Google Chrome tabs (YouTube, X and other sites with video or audio).
What permissions does it need?
Accessibility, so it can hear the play/pause key before macOS does. Automation, so it can ask Music and Chrome what’s playing and tell them to play or pause. It asks for both on first launch.
When does the picker appear?
Only when it’s genuinely unclear, like when two things are paused and neither is the obvious one. Otherwise play just plays, and pause just pauses.
How do I use the picker?
Press play again for the top pick. Use the arrow keys and Return, press a number, or click. Esc dismisses it.
Which macOS versions are supported?
macOS 14.2 or later.
How do I quit it?
Click the trident in the menu bar and choose Quit Pauseidon. Your play key goes back to how macOS handles it.
